Diplomatic Relations
The faculty members conduct research on the processes of Japan's vs. Russia's westernization and modernization. Also, Japanese ancient and medieval history, the national Japanese character, and Japanese nation building are explored.
The department teaches history of Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, India, and other countries to students. A graduate's professional activity includes complex study of these countries, their population, history, ethnography, and traditional values and priorities. An orientalist-historian is capable of working out scientifically based recommendations for collaboration with a country of study, taking into account its peculiarities.
