ÈÐßË104. Introduction to the Theory of Literature (2). It is an introduction to the basic concepts, rules, and conventions of the theory of literature, which helps participants to study the history of literature. Topics addressed are the relationship between literature and reality, basic regularities of literature development, and the inseparability of form and content in fiction.
BÈ323. History of Korean Literature (2). This course is designed for Korean language majors. Its purpose is to introduce Korean literary genres' evolution in ancient time and the Middle Ages, modern Korean writers and poets' works, as well as the influence of geographical, historical, and religious factors on the development of Korean literature, reflection of traditional moral and ethical values in Korean literature, and the influence of the world literature on Korean literature.
ÂÈ320. Introduction to Korean Philology (2). The purpose of the course is to give an overview of philology as a number of sciences that study language and literature. Topics include peculiarities of philology development in the Far East and Korea. Standard Korean, genres and styles of Korean literature, as well as rank of the Korean language among the world languages, Korean vocabulary, and basic dialects are studied.
BÈ325. History of Korean Literature (3). This course is designed for Korean majors. Its purpose is to introduce Korean literary genres' evolution in ancient time and the Middle Ages, Korean writers and poets' works, as well as the influence of geographical, historical, and religious factors on the development of Korean literature. Topics also include reflection of traditional moral and ethical values in Korean literature. Literary characteristics of the oldest written texts are considered.
BÈ322. Theoretical Grammar and Lexicology of Korean (2). A Korean morphology course gives students an idea of the structure and functioning of morphological units, grammar categories, parts of speech, as well as the grammar terms used by South Korean and North Korean linguists.
A Korean syntax course presents students with knowledge of the structure and functioning of syntactic units, grammatical essence of the sentence and word-combination, as well as the structure of the sentence.
A Korean Lexicology course is one of compulsory theoretical courses of the linguistic lectures series. The purpose of the course is to familiarize the student with basic knowledge of Korean vocabulary, general lexicological concepts, and vocabulary unit classes, etc.
ÂÈ311. Koreans' Mentality Structure (1). The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the peculiarities of Korean cultural values and priorities, and mentality (hierarchical thinking, collectivism, regionalism, and familism).Discussion covers understanding Korean cultural values and their psychological peculiarities.
ÂÈ321. History of Korean (2). The purpose of the course is to introduce students to an overview of the history of Korean. This course is also designed to familiarize students with the peculiarities of Korean phonetics, morphology and the system of written Middle Korean. Students utilize their knowledge of hangul while reading, translating, and analyzing oldest written texts.
ÈÐßË107. Theory of Literature (2). The course is designed to explore the theory of literary problems and the history of aesthetics. Literary process is analyzed. Emphasis is on the most complicated controversial issues such as a genre, method, style, and elevated style.
ÂÈ326. Dialectology of Korean (2). The main purpose of the course is to introduce students to the basic information on the quantity of Korean dialects, as well as the phonetic, grammatical and vocabulary peculiarities, to trace corresponding Middle Korean patterns, and to provide communicating with native speakers.
ÂÈ329. Korean Dictionary Compiling Practice (2). The purpose of this course is to familiarize students with computerized dictionaries based on computer applications designed by the informational laboratory of Higher College of Korean Studies.
ÂÈ327. Stylistics of Korean (1). The purpose of this course is to systematize their knowledge of certain stylistic aspects of Korean, as there have always existed great differences between oral and written Korean speech, which has been historically conditioned by coexistence of two completely different language formations.
