ÂÈ631. Ancient World History (2). Based on modern scientific data, a wide and objective description is given of the development of major ancient civilizations in the Old and New Worlds.
ÂÈ632. European Vs. American History (2). The course is designed to study the history of different regions. The social and cultural unity of medieval Europe is considered from social, political, cultural, and ideological viewpoints. The close interaction between the European and Oriental nations is presented as well. The course explores the role of great geographical discoveries in the historical process.
ÂÌ633. History of African and Asian countries. The purpose of the course is to give students an idea of historical processes in African and Asian countries in the Middle Ages, the early modern and modern periods. Problems of political and economic development in these countries, their national culture, social institutes, and economy are considered.
ÂÈ258. Chinese Historiography and Source Studies (2). The purpose of the course is to familiarize participants with the development of historical science in China, including historical chronicles evolution, dynasties' history, and encyclopedias compiling. Students are familiarized with the most remarkable historiographers' lives and activities, historical critics and historiographic schools. Emphasis is on the evolution of Chinese traditional historiography under the influence of philosophy, ideology and historiography of the West. History and social function of historical science in People's Republic of China is considered. Discussion covers written sources on history of China and the classification of sources. The course helps to develop students' skills in analyzing written sources. Students utilize their knowledge in the process of writing diploma projects and conducting research.
ÂÈ253. Topical Problems of Chinese History (4). The purpose of the course is to present modern history of China from 1800s till the present to students. Topics include the Chinese society and state evolution, and the Chinese economy. Emphasis is on the problems of cultural development, public concepts and ideas, religion, and ideology. The core problem of the course is the aftermath of contacts between Chinese and Western civilizations after the discovery of China, and the "machine civilization" penetration into the country. The course is designed to explore the dramatic changes in China in the 20th century and the transition from the traditional Chinese society to the modern one.
ÂÈ263. Multilateral Projects of Regional Cooperation in North East Asia (1). The purpose of the course is to introduce modern projects of regional development (Greater Vladivostok, Tumangan, Transkorean railway, etc) to the students.
ÂÈ266. Analysis of Topical Problems in Modern China (1). It is a workshop course based on current periodical texts concerned with political, economic, and cultural problems in modern China.
ÂÈ269. Russian-Chinese Trade and Economic Relations (2). The purpose of this course is to familiarize students with problems in trade and economic relations between Russia and China nowadays. The questions of trade structure and its tendency to change are considered; possible projects of trade economic cooperation between Russia and China in the near future are touched upon. Emphasis is placed on frontier trade economic cooperation and its prospects.
ÂÈ256. Integrating Processes in North East Asia (1). The purpose of the course is to explore the structure and typology of Asian Pacific integrating processes. Students are presented with basic knowledge of international and interstate structures genesis, interrelation between integrating systems, cultural integration and problems of personality in integrating world.
ÂÈ267. Scientific Analysis Foundations (1). The course is designed for undergraduate students. The purpose of the course is to help students improve professional knowledge and skills, as well as develop students' skills in independent thinking and analyzing problems. Topics include necessary material selection and decision-making. Students develop their skills in working on reference literature; writing reference lists, and in correct citation.
ÂÈ270. Ideological Processes in Modern Pacific Asia (2). The course is designed to explore topical ideological problems in modern Pacific Asian region. A historical phenomenon of ideological processes in these countries is considered. The most popular public, political, and religious problems are analyzed. Emphasis is on modern Confucianism's evolution in China, Japan, and Korea, as well as in South East Asian countries at the turn of the 21st century. The course is based on latest sources and literature.
ÂÈ260. Traditional and Electronic Chinese Dictionaries and Reference Books (1). This specific course helps students deal with a great number of dictionaries and reference books which the Chinese people have been writing for more than 2,000 years. The course is extremely helpful for prospective interpreters and/or translator, as well as researchers. Based on information technologies, the course optimizes ways of finding rare reference sources. |
