(FENU subdivisions, opened jointly with foreign institutions, are indicated in the next section).
Dr. Kurilov initiated the FENU's Innovative Educational Program, awarded with one of the largest federal grants in the history of Russian higher education. FENU's project was rated 4th among 197 top Russian universities which took part in competition for awards of the "Innovative Universities" Grant Program within "Education" National Project. FENU won the 3rd largest grant of this competition, next to Moscow State University and St. Petersburg State University. Five research and educational centers in Natural Sciences have been opened at Far Eastern National University within this program.
INITIATED INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS
Dr. Kurilov has initiated partnership projects with over 90 Asian, European, and American universities, over 20 subdivisions established at Far Eastern National University jointly with foreign ministries and other governmental agencies. Among them were the following ones:
2006Confucius Institute, Far Eastern National University (established jointly with Chinese Government and Heilongjiang University, China) - the first Confucius Institute in Russia
2006Joint dual degree program with Kyonghee University, Seoul, Republic of Korea
2005Russian-Chinese Institute of Postgraduate Studies (established jointly with Chinese Government and Heilongjiang University, China) - the first of two such institutes opened in Russia according to a governmental agreement between Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China (the second Russian-Chinese Institute of Postgraduate Studies is opened jointly by Moscow State University and Peking University)
2004Joint dual degree program with Hokuriku University, Japan
2002Joint dual degree program with the University of Southern Queensland, Australia
2001Joint partnership program of FENU's Law School and Seattle University Law School. One of the projects within this program was awarded with a grant of Foundation for Russian American Economic Cooperation (FRAEC) and recognized a success story in 2003
2001Center of Testing Chinese as a Foreign Language, jointly with the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China
2001FENU Chair of Indian Studies, jointly with Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Center of the Embassy of India in the Russian Federation.
2001Regional Center of the Chinese Language, jointly with Chinese Government
2000Cultural Centers of Vietnam, India, Germany and France, jointly with Embassies and General Consulates of these countries
2000Project on establishment of FENU Interregional Institute of Social Studies (Far East Center for Advanced Studies and Education), awarded with $1,000,000 USD grant in a contest with 60 other Russian higher education institutions (funded by the Kennan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies (USA), Carnegie Corporation, The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation (USA), and the Moscow Public Scientific Fund)
1999FENU's research and educational project in Political Science, awarded with $1,500,000 credit of the Word Bank
1999FENU Korean Research Institute, jointly with the Korea Foundation
1999Russian-Chinese dual degree programs, jointly with Heilongjiang University and Dalian University of Foreign Languages, China
1999FENU Marine Biota Research and Educational Project, funded by the American Foundation for Civil Research and Development (CRDF) and by the RF Ministry of Education (total grant funding about $3,000,000)
